Does Liverpool player still hold a torch for Italian giants?

It’s pretty hard to understand this player’s latest comments. After all, he’s back in favour with Rafael Benitez and pretty much holding down a place in the Liverpool first team after a summer of turmoil. Why would he want to risk incurring the wrath of his manager by making eyes at a club who courted him for several weeks, before deciding to sign someone else instead?

The Daily Mirror reports that Xabi Alonso seemingly still has an interest in Juventus, despite Claudio Ranieri recently confessing that the Spaniard would have been too slow for the Turin team this season. It had been thought that Liverpool were going to sign Gareth Barry in the summer, thus forcing the 27-year-old to seek pastures new in Italy. The move eventually fell through, although Alonso has hinted that he may eventually be on his way.

“To be honest, for my part, the attraction (to Juventus) has remained intact,” said Alonso in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.

“One thing I can say is that I personally appreciated the honesty of the club executives,” said Alonso.

“They told me their tactics on the pitch were different and that is why they chose Poulsen and not me.

Perhaps the midfielder’s words have been lost in translation. After all, he has been a regular starter for Liverpool this season, both in the Premier League and Champions League. Presumably the supporters would like to see him remain at Anfield for seasons to come? What do you make of these latest comments?
