The Daily Mail claim that Arsene Wenger is ready to fork out the £40m needed to persuade Atletico Madrid to sell their prized asset Radamel Falcao.

This source also states that the North London side have the funds the intention to meet the players £40m wage demands in a move that would see Arsenal smash their current transfer record.

The 27 year old Colombian has been in astonishing form this term and has been strongly linked with a move away from the Vicente Calderon but has been earmarked for a move to Premier League big spenders Chelsea and Man City and talk of a switch to the Emirates Stadium will surprise many.

Arsene Wenger may well feel the need to strengthen his attack despite the fact that both Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud have been relatively effective this season, netting 18 and 14 goals respectively this season. However clearly the addition of a prolific striker such as Falcao will more adequately make up for the loss of Robin Van Persie.

Falcao netted 36 goals in his first season in Spain’s top tier and has notched up 25 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions this season.

Clearly any move for the former FC Porto man would stand little chance of succeeding if Arsenal did not have a Champions League berth to offer the striker so a top four finish is essential to challenge for any top target, a fact of which Wenger is all to aware.
