Young Arsenal forward Joel Campbell is set to spend a second season on loan at La Liga side Real Betis after the Spanish outfit expressed an interest in holding onto him for another year.

Costa Rican international Campbell was signed by Arsenal from Saprissa in 2011, but Arsene Wenger’s hopes of unearthing a new Premier League talent were dashed briefly when the striker was denied a work permit to play in England.

As a result, he was sent out on loan to French side Lorient last season and to Real Betis during the current campaign to gain first-team football. And Betis are to open up talks with Arsenal over continuing the 20-year-old’s loan deal into next season despite only two goals this season in La Liga.

Representatives from Real Betis are to fly to London for discussions with manager Pepe Mel quoted as saying by Talksport: “Very soon we’ll travel to London to ask Arsenal to loan for a second year loan for Campbell.”

Campbell’s Arsenal career has been troubled due to the fact that he was denied a work permit after signing for the Emirates club.

The arrivals of Olivier Giroud and Lucas Podolski in the summer dented his chances further despite Robin Van Persie being sold to Manchester United and Campbell’s failure to show himself as a prolific striker during either of his loan spells mean Wenger might be ready to send him out on loan once again.
