Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has denied there is any substance to reports linking him to the Zenit St Petersburg job according to talkSport.

The Russian club are reportedly ready to draw up a short list of potential replacements for current manager Lucciano Spalletti after becoming disappointed with the club’s performances this year in the Russian League.

Zenit currently sit in third, lagging behind their rivals CSKA Moscow and mega-bucks Anzhi Makhachkala and crashed out of the Europa League on Thursday after going down to Swiss side FC Basel.

Reports in recent days had suggested that Zenit had made Mancini their number one target amid continued rumours that the Italian manager is unhappy at the Etihad.

The Italian manager is said to have become disillusioned with his side, believing a number of the club’s players to have become complacent after winning the Premier League title last season.

City have failed to replicate that form this year and have lost significant ground to city rivals Manchester United in the race for Premier League title.

But Mancini has poured cold water on suggestions that he might be about to leave the Etihad Stadium for the Russian side.

When questioned about it, Mancini simply replied, ‘It’s not true.’
