Jose Mourinho has suggested he may extend his time at Real Madrid beyond the current season according to Sky Sports.

Reports earlier in the season had suggested this would be Mourinho’s final season in charge at the Spanish giants after they lost ground in the race for the La Liga title to Barcelona.

Marca claimed that an inside source had told them that senior players in the club’s dressing room had informed the Real Madrid hierarchy that they would hand in transfer requests should Mourinho remain in charge next term.

But the Portuguese boss’ position has since been strengthened after they secured back-to-back victories over Barcelona and look in contention to win the Champions League and Copa Del Rey.

Mourinho has been strongly linked with a return to Chelsea as the Stamford Bridge side draw a shortlist of potential replacements for interim manager Rafa Benitez. But club owner Roman Abramovich is said to have concerns over re-appointing the ‘Special One’ after the pair parted on acrimonious terms following Mourinho’s spell in charge at the club.

Manchester United are also reportedly considering Mourinho as a potential replacement for Sir Alex Ferguson once the Scot retires. But it appears that Fergie has no intention of retiring just yet which could pave the way for Mourinho deciding to continue his reign at the Bernabeu.
