Steve Clarke Warns Clubs Off West Brom Stars

Baggies boss keen to strengthen his squad over the summer.

West Brom boss Steve Clarke has issued a ‘hands off’ warning to any potential suitors for the club’s stars, according to Sky Sports.

The club have enjoyed a good season following a bright start to the campaign. They have failed to maintain that momentum throughout the season but Clarke is hoping to strengthen his team and improve on their performance next season.

Clarke knows he is likely to lose Romelu Lukaku this summer. The Belgian striker has been playing for the club on a season long loan deal from Chelsea and has been highly impressive on his way to becoming the club’s top scorer this season.

But Chelsea have made it clear that Lukaku is unlikely to return next season with the Stamford Bridge side keen to see the 19-year-old playing for a club in European competition.

That has prompted Clarke to identify ‘three or four’ new signings for the summer and he is hoping to carry out his business as quickly as possible once the transfer window opens.

Clarke is also keen to hold on to his current squad and has warned that it would take a ‘fortune’ for him to consider selling his key men.

‘It’s difficult to speculate how many players will come because you don’t know how many clubs are going to try to take some of your players,’ said Clarke.

‘At the moment, looking at the squad, if we were to bring in three or four that would be enough – but things can change.

‘Our players aren’t going to be cheap. I don’t think anyone would be wise to come for any of our players because they will cost a fortune.’
