Real Madrid have reportedly seen a €30m deal with Borussia Dortmund agreed for striker Robert Lewandowski, only to see the Polish international turn down a move to the Bernabeu according to Goal.com.

The Bundesliga side had previously publicly stated they would not sell the 24 year old to domestic rivals Bayern Munich, a move that their star striker apparently covets, and now one wonders who will make the next move.

Lewandowski has just a year to run on his current contract, at which point he could feasibly move to the Allianz Arena on a free transfer, such is Dortmund’s desire to not sell to the Bundesliga champions, having already seen Mario Gotze make a similar move this summer.

Real Madrid are certainly in the market for a more effective striker signing, with Gonzalo Higuain linked with a move away from the La Liga side and Karim Benzema seemingly not seen as the club’s first choice starter for 2013/14.

Robert Lewandowski has scored 66 goals in the course of the past two seasons, including a memorable four goal haul for Borussia Dortmund against Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final first leg encounter between the two sides.
