Villa Park side keen on Latics wide-man.
Aston Villa are reportedly interested in re-signing Scottish winger Shaun Maloney according to the Express & Star.
Despite his Wigan Athletic side suffering relegation to the Championship the pint sized winger enjoyed a successful season on an individual level, scoring seven goals and providing 10 assists for the Latics and the 30 year old may well be looking to secure an instant return to the top flight.
Maloney spent 18 months at Villa Park sandwiched between two spells at Celtic and boss Paul Lambert seemingly wants to bring in the talented wide-man to boost his Aston Villa attack.
Shaun Maloney has seen Arouna Kone leave Wigan Athletic as well as boss Roberto Martinez leaving the club to take over as Everton boss and the experienced attacker may feel the time is right to follow suit.
Lambert has seen Christian Benteke make a transfer request and will no doubt be looking to keep hold of the Belgian but could see Maloney as addition to his Aston Villa attack and could perhaps be able to lure the set piece specialist to the Midlands ‘on the cheap’ though the Wigan Athletic man is contracted to the DW Stadium side until the end of the 2014/15 season.
