Hull City boss Steve Bruce has denied suggestions that he is planning a reunion with former Wigan man Paul Scharner at the KC Stadium reports the Hull Daily Mail.

Speculation has grown that the utility player, who currently resides with Bundesliga club Hamburg, could make a possible return to England with Bruce’s Hull side to help anchor the Tigers midfield.

And the Daily Mirror had earlier reported that Bruce has held talks with the Austrian over a possible £1million switch as he looked to throw the one-time West Brom player a Premier League lifeline.

However speaking after last night’s friendly defeat to Eintracht Braunschweig the former Sunderland boss was quick to dismiss any suggestions that he was looking to sign the 33-year-old.

“That’s one I can say no to,” Bruce told the Hull Daily Mail. “Obviously there’s a link there but no.”

Scharner, who can feature in either defence or midfield, finished last season back on loan at his former club Wigan Athletic and he has reportedly been told he is surplus to requirements at the Imtech Arena despite having 12 months to run on his current contract.

Hull are expected to complete a deal for Evian midfielder Eric Tie Bi who featured in their friendly against Braunschweig yesterday after his current allowed him to earn a deal with the Premier League newcomers.

While the East Yorkshire side have also been linked with a move for Marseille midfielder Morgan Amalfitano. The French international could now join the Tigers on a season-loan long after falling out-of-favour at the Stade Velodrome.
