Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has admitted that he was never going to leave the club to join Manchester United during the summer transfer window, Sky Sports reports.

United were known to be chasing the former Arsenal man over the summer with new boss David Moyes making him his top target after taking over at the club from Sir Alex Ferguson.

His interest was well known and several big money bids were made but no deal was struck and the 26-year-old ended up staying at the Nou Camp despite the heavy speculation.

However, Fabregas has now insisted that he never once intended to to make the move to Old Trafford as he always wanted to stay with his boyhood club and prove himself there.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s El Classico he said; “I never planned to go back this summer.

“It’s true that they had offers and they told me about them but the only thing in my head was staying at Barcelona.

“I saw the stories and I spoke with Darren (Dein, his agent) and he said: ‘What do you want to do?’

“I know that if a club come in for you and you tell your representative that you want to go, then you go. All that’s missing is that the club accept the offer. It’s easy.

“But at no time did I say that I wanted to go. It was clear in my mind that I wanted to succeed at Barcelona.”
