Barcelona star Xavi Hernandez has backed in-form Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster to be a huge success at the Nou Camp were he to join the La Liga champions, according to reports in the Metro.

Forster has been attracting the attentions of a whole host of big-name clubs from across the continent of late after a string of eye-catching displays between the sticks for the Scottish Premier League giants, especially in their recent Champions League campaigns.

In particular, the 25-year-old really impressed in Celtic’s various meetings with the Catalans, so much so that reports of late have suggested that Barca may soon be about to make a move for Forster.

The Spanish giants’ current No 1, Victor Valdes, has already announced that he will be leaving the club at the end of this season in order to seek a new challenge abroad, and midfield player Xavi believes that Forster would easily be able to fill the Spaniard’s shoes at Barcelona.

“I think the players all know about the Forster interest – and it is a player we know very well,” Xavi said.

“I can’t say that I watch him every week – but when we have played Celtic he has shown that he is a world-class goalkeeper.

“From what I have seen he has everything to succeed at a club like Barcelona – and with his Champions League performances for Celtic I am sure there will be more than one big club interested in him.”

Forster is contracted to Celtic Park until June 2016, but Hoops manager Neil Lennon did recently admit that the Scots have no chance of keeping hold of the shot stopper.
