The Merseryside giants are known to be keen to add more fire power to their attack at Anfield for the second half of this season after the encouraging start to the new campaign that the Reds have made so far under head coach Brendan Rodgers.

Rodgers’s side currently sit in second place in the Premier League after the opening 11 fixtures, now just two points off leaders Arsenal following their comprehensive 4-0 win over struggling Fulham at Anfield last Saturday afternoon.

However, it is thought that the Northern Irishman is still desperate to add more strength in depth to his squad, and particularly up front, as the club go in search of a top-four finish in the Premier League come next May, and with it a lucrative place in next season’s Uefa Champions League for the first time since 2009.

And to aid that push, Rodgers has identified Southampton’s Italy international to bring to Merseyside in January, with the striker currently contracted to St Mary’s until June 2017.
