FC Basel boss Murat Yakin has claimed that Tottenham have approached him in relation to the North London club’s vacant managerial post according to the Metro.

White Hart Lane chairman Daniel Levy chose to axe Portuguese manager Andre Villas-Boas following Tottenham’s 5-0 home defeat to Liverpool on Sunday and will now be looking at potential replacements and Yakin may well be a viable option.

The 39 year old has been in charge of FC Basel since October 2012 and helped the Swiss club to a domestic title last term and narrowly missed out on guiding his side into the last 16 of the Champions League earlier this month and is considered a good up and coming manager.

Yakin has fuelled speculation of a move to take over at Spurs by telling Swiss website ’20 minutes’: ‘I had no contact with Lazio, but with Tottenham, yes.’

One wonders if Yakin is experienced enough at the highest level for a Tottenham side who have set their sights on securing a Champions League berth in arguably the toughest league in Europe.
