Arsene Wenger has limited option up front as it is and recent injuries to Olivier Giroud and Nicklas Bendtner have exacerbated the issue and as such the Gunners boss will certainly be looking to bring in a forward though many would have imagined such a move would take place in January and not in the summer.

Interest in 27 year old Allianz Arena star Mandzukic makes sense, especially as the former Wolfsburg man may well find himself playing second fiddle to Pole Robert Lewandowsi, who is expected to make a free transfer move from Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season.

The fact that Wenger prefers to use Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolki in wide areas leaves Arsenal short on central striking options and Mandzukic has the physical stature that would lend itself well to life in the Premier League.

Mandzukic has been a big success since moving to Bayern Munich 18 months ago, scoring 22 goals in all competitions in his debut season at the Bavarian club, during which then boss Jupp Heynckes secured a treble.

Under Pep Guardiola it’s pretty much been ‘more of the same’ as Bayern Munich have triumphed over all before them, with Mandzukic scoring 13 goals in 25 appearances.
