Villa, who lost 2-1 to Arsenal at Villa Park on Monday night to sink further into trouble, are in desperate need of more strength in depth up front in the Midlands for the second half of the campaign, especially given the recent struggles in front of goal from Belgium international Christian Benteke.
And with Villa boss Paul Lambert knowing the veteran marksman well from their time working together at Norwich City, the Scot is now hoping to be able to tie up a deal for Holt shortly to help ease the burden on Benteke.
“Holt? I had him at Norwich and he did all right for me at Norwich, but I don’t know too much more,” said Lambert after watching his side lose to the Premier League leaders.
“Holty was fantastic for me at Norwich, he’s a proper guy. I’ve just been told that the rumours are everywhere, but until something’s concrete, I’ll see.
“If he comes he comes, but he might not come, he might come. He did brilliantly for me at Norwich and I’ll see what happens.
“There are things going on at the moment. We are trying to get people in.”
