Norwich City boss Chris Hughton has insisted that attacking midfield ace Wes Hoolahan will be going nowhere this month after former Canaries boss Paul Lambert expressed an interest in taking him to Aston Villa, Sky Sports reports.

Lambert is keen to add some experience and creativity to his midfield this month to help the younger members of the squad and said of his former charge: “When I was the manager of Norwich, he was fantastic, he really was – a big, big player.

“He was excellent. But he is Norwich’s player, so there is no point in talking about him. I won’t disrespect anybody on that front.”

Earlier this week Lambert brought in former Norwich striker Grant Holt on loan until the end of the season.

However, current Canaries boss Chris Hughton has insisted that Hoolahan will not be making his way to the West Midlands this month as he is looking to add to his playing staff during the transfer window, not subtract from it.

“We’ve had a few injuries, especially in midfield, and then Michael Turner will be out for a while as well,” he said.

“We are trying as hard as we can (to sign players) the same as everybody else, but January is a notoriously bad time to bring in players because they also have to be right for the club.”
