The highly rated Romania international has only been with the north London club since the beginning of this campaign after the central defender first arrived at White Hart Lane from Romanian champions Steaua Bucharest for a transfer fee of 9.5m euros on a five-year deal.
However, despite enjoying an encouraging debut campaign at the back for Tottenham, it is understood that the German side are keen to try and lure the player to the Ruhr Valley when the summer transfer window reopens again for business on July 1.
And that is because Dortmund head coach Jurgen Klopp has been forced to cope with a number of untimely injuries at the heart of his back four so far in this campaign, with the likes of experienced Germany international Mats Hummels in particular being absent for long periods of the campaign.
Chiriches, 24, has a contract in north London that runs until June 2018 and has so far managed to find the back of the net on one occasion in his 13 Premier League outings for the club.
