The Spain international was handed the chance to double the visitors’ lead from the penalty spot midway through the second half at the El Coliseum Alfonso Perez in a contest of huge importance in the race for the title in Spain this season.
However, the usually reliable striker missed from the spot after being distracted by a Getafe supporter bearing his backside just before Costa struck his effort, although luckily for the player he soon netted a second goal as Atleti went three points clear at the top with a 2-0 win.
