Arsenal are preparing the ground ahead of a big money bid for Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema with Arsene Wenger having entered into negotiations with the French international’s representatives.

CaughtOffside understands that the Spanish giants are keen to bring in another high-profile striker this summer with the likes Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero known to be targets, leaving 26 year old striker Benzema considering his future.

Benzema is enjoying a very productive campaign and is a regular under Carlo Ancelotti, with Gonzalo Higuain’s move to Napoli leaving the way clear for the former Lyon man to lead the Real Madrid attack.

Ancelotti has seen his front three of Benzema, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo help Real Madrid to mount challenges to win both La Liga and Champions League having already won the Copa del Rey but it seems that Bernabeu president Florentino Perez wants to bring in another ‘Galatico’ which has left Wenger pushing to bring in the long term Gunners target.

Wenger wants to strengthen his attack and the chance to finally land a forward he has pursued for the best part of six years will lead the Arsenal manager to offer £40m for Benzema and will hope that such an offer would secure the powerful forward as his first signing of the summer.

Olivier Giroud has ploughed something of a lone furrow up front this term with Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott suffering with injuries and average form and Wenger hopes to bring in Benzema to lead his attack.

Benzema has scored 24 goals in all competitions this season, the last of which coming in Real Madrid’s narrow Champions League semi-final first leg win over Bayern Munich.

Arsenal are set for a busy summer with Arsene Wenger reportedly ready to spend big with the help of a hefty transfer war-chest that may be boosted by funds raised from player sales with the likes of Mikel Arteta, Lukas Podolski, Abou Diaby among those who could be on their way out.
