The north London club invested over £50m in Erik Lamela and Roberto Soldado and neither player has delivered and as such Levy is ready to spend again to resolve the club’s lack of effective striking options.

The 27 year old Colombian has just over a year to run on his current FC Porto deal and having seen his side lose their domestic title to Benfica there is every chance Martinez is ready to meet a new challenge and a move to the Premier League may well tempt the powerful forward.

Martinez has scored 58 goals in 86 appearances since moving to Portugal and is a player sure to interest a fair few sides this summer.

Emmanuel Adebayor has been a player Tim Sherwood has been able to rely upon this and will hope to tie down the Togo international to a new long term deal whilst England Under 21 international Harry Kane has shown great promise in recent weeks.
