CaughtOffside Awards: Liverpool And Man City Stars Battle For Player Of The Season Crown

Manchester City and Liverpool goal machines nominated for Premier League player of the season honour. Find out who CaughtOffside writers voted for here.

Adam Davies:
Yaya Toure. Luis Suarez undoubtedly played very well for Liverpool, and his goal record is phenomenal, but the Uruguayan failed to score against any other team in the UEFA Champions League places, and just nine of his 31 goals were in matches against teams in the top half of the table.

I hate to describe Suarez as a flat track bully – mostly because I hate the phrase – but Yaya Toure dominated most of the games he played for the title winning team. 20 goals for a central midfielder is an absurd total, and his tally of nine assists is not bad either.

Tom Seymour:
Luis Suarez. The left field choice here would be to say Yaya Toure, but to be honest as good as the Ivorian has been there is no looking past Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan’s league 31 goals are made all the more impressive by the fact they came in just 33 appearances and Suarez doesn’t even take penalties for Liverpool.

Richard Morgan:
The standout candidate after a remarkable campaign that saw the Uruguay international top the Premier League scoring charts, and this despite missing the first five league games of the season through suspension.

Robert Summerscales:
No contest, Luis Suarez. He was a laughing stock just over 12 months ago when he bit into Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic – his latest misdemeanor in a long list of offences.

However, he served his suspension quietly, before making a spectacular return to the first team, winning the golden boot by a huge margin.

Suarez has turned his career around and many neutrals, in spite of themselves, now rank him among their favourite players.

WINNER: Luis Suarez (Liverpool)
