The German international spoke to Van Gaal out of courtesy, as it is believed that he largely credits the Dutchman for getting his career back on track after a series of injuries when he was in charge of the Bundesliga champions between 2009-11.

However, it is also said that LA Liga big guns Real Madrid are in the driving seat to land his signature should he be allowed to make an exit over the coming months.

Kroos is reportedly unhappy at Bayern and is actively seeking an exit from the club this summer and could be set for a massive pay rise in he Spanish capital if he opts to join them instead of making the move to Manchester.

The 24-year-old is currently on international duty with Germany right now, and it is not likely that any decision on his future will be made until the tournament’s conclusion in July.
