Liverpool had seemingly been leading the chase for 25 year old England man Lallana but Brendan Rodgers has since opted to pursue Sunderland’s Adam Johnson, leaving a path clear for White Hart Lane boss Mauricio Pochettino to reunite with the Saints playmaker.

Former Saints boss Pochettino may well be looking to make significant changes to the Spurs squad he has inherited from Tim Sherwood and no doubt both Lallana and Rodriguez would be open to a move to north London.

There is a very real danger that the south-coast side could be decimated by an exodus of talent with Rickie Lambert having already agreed a move to Liverpool and both Dejan Lovren and Luke Shaw also likely to be interesting a host of prospective suitors after excellent seasons at the back.
