Check in to Netherlands vs Argentina

Real Madrid midfielder Angel di Maria could be on his way to England after the Spanish giants accept a £47.7m offer from Manchester United for the Argentine, according to AS.

The 26-year-old is currently away with his national side at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and has admitted that his future at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu is unknown.

This is despite the fact that di Maria played a key role in the Madrid team last season as Carlo Ancelotti’s men won both the Champions League and the Copa del Rey.

The South American showed his versatility by playing in a deeper role to accommodate the arrival of world record signing Gareth Bale and the Argentina international scored five goals and provided 22 assists.

Yet despite this Los Blancos are still open to selling the midfield ace and new United manager Louis van Gaal is looking to make a move early in order to beat Paris Saint-Germain to di Maria.

Van Gaal will get a good look at the player when his current side Netherlands take on the Argentinians in the World Cup semi-finals on Wednesday.

The Dutchman has already overseen the £27m purchase of Luke Shaw from Southampton at his new club and wants several more signings before the 2014/15 Premier League season starts.

One of the key issues for the Red Devils last term – when they finished with their worst ever Premier League points tally and no Champions League football for the first time since 1995 – was lack of creativity in the middle of the park, something which di Maria has in abundance.
