The 26-year-old is currently away at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil with his national team Argentina as they prepare to take on Germany in the final of the tournament on Sunday.

Di Maria was a key part of Madrid’s success last season – as they won the Champions League and Copa del Rey – but has grown disillusioned at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and is ready to move on.

The French champions hold the advantage in the race to sign di Maria however, with their added incentive of being able to offer Champions League football next term – something which the Red Devils cannot following their seventh place finish in the Premier League in 2013/14.

The Argentinian joined Madrid in the summer of 2010 from Benfica for a fee of £20.3m and has since played 189 times for the club in all competitions, winning La Liga, two Copa del Rey titles and the Champions League.
