Check in to 2014 FIFA World Cup Final: Germany vs Argentina

Manchester United may be about to miss out on the signing of Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria, with Paris Saint-Germain the new favourites to snap him up, according to Spanish publication AS.

The Argentine has recently emerged as a top target for the Red Devils, and it looked as though a move may be close as the club opened talks with the player, but he is now said to have rejected a big-money contract to move to Old Trafford.

United’s lack of Champions League football may be a factor, and it now seems likely that the 26-year-old will instead opt for a move to French champions PSG, who have also been among his admirers.

Di Maria, whose prime focus will be on World Cup glory for Argentina in today’s final against Germany, was one of Real’s best players last season as he contributed an impressive 11 goals and 26 assists to their double-winning campaign, which saw them lift the Champions League and Copa del Rey.

Still, with the Spanish giants likely to chase some marquee signings in the coming months, Di Maria looks like making way as the club look to raise funds for bigger targets, with AS Monaco and Colombia star James Rodriguez believed to be a priority.
