World Cup Star Closes In On £55m Real Madrid Switch On £6m-Per-Year Contract

Colombian winger nears Bernabeu move.Colombian World Cup star James Rodriguez is reportedly closing in on a move from AS Monaco to Real Madrid, according to Spanish publication AS.

The 23-year-old was one of the stand-out performers in Brazil this summer, attracting plenty of interest from around Europe with his dazzling displays for his national side, as he finished top scorer of the competition with a total of six goals in five appearances.

Real have been desperate to bring Rodriguez in, and it looks increasingly likely that Argentine wide-man Angel Di Maria will be sold to either Manchester United or Paris Saint-Germain to help fund the move, which is set to cost them around £55m.

It was initially expected to be a more expensive signing for the Spanish giants, but Monaco have lowered their asking price for the South American starlet, whom they only signed from Porto last summer.

Rodriguez has admitted several times that it is a dream of his to play for Real Madrid, and he has agreed a contract of around £6m per year, though the length of the deal has not yet been disclosed.

After the £85m signing of Gareth Bale last year, this is another major ‘Galactico’ signing for the Champions League winners as they look to improve on their performances in La Liga next season.
