Exclusive: Manchester United On The Verge Of Sealing Surprise Move For £20m Arsenal Target

Red Devils set to swoop for La Liga midfielder.Manchester United could be about to deal a major transfer blow to rivals Arsenal with the signing of Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, CaughtOffside understands.

The Gunners have been strongly linked with the German international for much of the summer, with recent reports suggesting that a move for the World Cup winner could be on hold after a disagreement over wages.

Khedira, who has been with Real since signing from Stuttgart in the summer of 2010, is thought to be demanding excessive wages of around £150,000 per week to move to the Emirates Stadium, which would put him above the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez as the highest earner at the north London club.

Although Arsenal are keen to sign Khedira, they do not want to go overboard in their new-found willingness to spend big on established players, and refuse to be taken for ransom by the 27-year-old.

This could now see United swoop in for the player, with Louis van Gaal also desperate to bring in a new big-name signing in midfield this summer, with failed bids for the likes of Toni Kroos and Arturo Vidal leaving the club frustrated in their efforts so far.

However, Khedira’s potential availability has alerted the Red Devils, and they seem happy to go ahead and meet the player’s wage demands as they look to bring him to Old Trafford to form a fine partnership with another new signing, Ander Herrera.

Khedira has been linked with United before, as he was mentioned as one of many transfer targets linked with the club last summer as previous manager David Moyes chased a high-quality midfield player, and the arrival of van Gaal at Old Trafford could finally help them land their man.

The combative midfielder could be open to turning his back on Champions League football for one season to link up with the highly-regarded Dutch coach at United, as he remains keen to leave the Bernabeu this summer after falling down in the pecking order in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

With another Arsenal target in Loic Remy also looking like joining Liverpool, Arsene Wenger’s side may live to regret not meeting the wage demands of their top transfer targets this summer, with some big-name players now set to strengthen two of their major rivals ahead of next season.

United have already held positive talks with Khedira’s agent after seeing a bid of around £20m accepted by Real, and the player could arrive in Manchester for further negotiations next week.
