QPR are closing in on the signing of Cardiff City centre-back Steven Caulker according to the Daily Telegraph.

The former Tottenham man is also the subject of interest from Crystal Palace but Loftus Road boss Harry Redknapp will hope to win the race for his former White Hart Lane charge.

The 22 year old England man has an £8m buy-out clause and both London sides have seen their bids accepted by the Welsh side, who failed to beat the drop to the Championship last term.

Redknapp is confident he will lure Caulker to form a brand new central defensive partnership alongside fellow new signing Rio Ferdinand, who moved to the west London side following the expiration of his Man United contract earlier this summer.

Caulker impressed during his debut season as Cardiff City captain, starting all 38 of their Premier League fixtures, but is clearly keen to remain in the top tier and looks set for an instant return to the Premier League.
