Manchester United are apparently set to ditch their interest in Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado in order to concentrate on signing Angel Di Maria instead, according to Spanish publication Marca.

Di Maria is said to be unhappy at the Santiago Bernabeu, despite enjoying a fine personal showing during the 2013/14 season, and French giants Paris Saint Germain had been tipped to make a swoop for the Argentine international this summer.

However, on top of a €70m transfer fee, the club would have to pay him an annual salary of €7m-per-year as well, and last week the Ligue 1 champions confirmed that they ended their interest in the player as he was too expensive.

Meanwhile, United had been heavily linked with Fiorentina’s Juan Cuadrado, who impressed for Colombia at the World Cup and seems keen to leave The Viola for a bigger club.

But reports in Catalan paper Sport now claim that Barcelona are winning the race to sign the 27-year-old, leaving United clear to concentrate on landing Di Maria.

Barcelona are hoping to drive down the price of Cuadrado as they look to add more creative talent to their ranks for the coming season, although they may have to sell Dani Alves first.

United have been linked with a number of wingers since Louis Van Gaal took over at the club last month, and now Di Maria could appear as their last remaining target.
