Speaking to Sky Sports after Liverpool’s shock 3-1 loss away to West Ham United yesterday, Redknapp said that the team have really struggled to replace in the incredible attacking influence of star player Luis Suarez, who was sold to Barcelona in a £75m deal.

The Reds have now lost three times already this season, with a number of new signings made by Brendan Rodgers during the summer still settling in slowly to life at Anfield.

Liverpool were superb last season as they scored over 100 goals to narrowly finish second in the league behind champions Manchester City, and looked the favourites to end their 24-year wait for the title for much of the late part of the season.

However, they now look set for an even longer wait to finally come out on top of the English top flight again, with the team now in a major rebuilding process after a difficult summer.

Redknapp feels their defence is the main concern, and the former midfielder says his old club aren’t in this year’s title race.

“I don’t put Liverpool in the equation to win the title, I never have to be honest,” he said.

“I never did because as soon as they lost one of the best players in the world and the best player in the Premier League last season it makes it impossible.

“When you bring players in then it does take a little bit of time for them to bed in and settle. Defensively, bringing in (Dejan) Lovren is going to be a really good signing, but he’s really struggling to find his way in the Premier League playing for Liverpool.

“For them to get into the top four should be the aim for this year. The title? No chance. Not when you haven’t got Suarez in your team. He was such a difference and he made everything seem possible last year.”
