Four Everton stars including England international Leighton Baines took on a Liverpool team that featured Jon Flanagan and Fabio Borini in the best of three competition.
The last physical Merseyside derby ended in a 1-1 draw with a Phil Jagielka wonder strike cancelling out Steven Gerrard’s earlier effort.
