The Brazilian looks likely to leave the Catalonian club either in the New Year or next summer after falling out with manager Luis Enrique.

Alves has drawn the interest of a number of Premier League clubs including Manchester United, as well as the Gunners and Tottenham.

The 31-year-old announced his intention to come to England in October by saying, “I am moving to England next year. I am going to play in the cradle of football. This will be my last year at Barcelona.” He was speaking to Brazilian newspaper O Globo.

The Gunners were thought to be favourites to sign the wantaway star, but Spurs are apparently now ready to swoop in ahead of them.

They will attempt to beat their North London rivals by making a £7 million bid in January.

Tottenham are chasing Alves after a poor start to Mauricio Pochettino’s reign at the club. Defensive frailties have been a major part of the Argentine’s slow beginnings at White Hart Lane.
