Concerns over the capabilities of current No.1 Simon Mignolet have reached breaking point and now the Reds are desperately seeking an alternative between the sticks to the Belgium international.

Mignolet has grown increasingly erratic in recent times, with the own goal the 26-year-old scored against Leicester City on Tuesday night just the latest mistake in a calamity of errors.

It has reached breaking point for manager Brendan Rodgers and the Northern Irishman is desperate to bring in a new stopper in the January transfer window.

Rodgers has had his eye on Neto for some time and is looking to ward off other interested parties such as AS Roma with a colossal wage offer for the Brazilian.

The 25-year-old’s current deal with La Viola expires at the end of the season and he looks destined to leave the Serie A club having rejected the offer to extend it beyond that.

Neto joined the Florence based side from Atletico Paranaense in the summer of 2011 and has since played 76 times for the club in all competitions – although is yet to earn his first cap for Brazil.
