According to talkSPORT, the prolific 28-year-old has a buy-out clause of £28m which could see him leave Porto in the January transfer window, though Milan are not financially strong enough at the moment to meet that fee.

Liverpool are also known to be big fans of the Colombian international, who has a superb scoring record since arriving in Portuguese football, putting him on the radar of a number of top clubs all around Europe.

Brendan Rodgers is in need of a top class replacement for Luis Suarez upfront, and £16m summer signing Mario Balotelli has been desperately poor so far since he left Milan for Anfield in the summer.

Injuries to Daniel Sturridge have also set Liverpool back, but Martinez may now be a realistic target for the Reds this winter after Milan look to have pulled out of the running.
