The Swede claims that he was in the middle of the pair’s disagreement during his time at Ajax. Koeman was manager and van Gaal Director of football while the forward was at the Dutch club. As usual the 33-year-old was at the middle of the controversy.

Apparently the current Red Devils boss wanted the mercurial forward to be rested for league matches, in order to keep him fresh for the Champions League. However, his younger colleague did not agree and felt the insistence from his fellow Dutchman meant that he was unable to fight for Ibrahimovic.

“Koeman went mad. He was furious at van Gaal. He felt that statement meant his hands were tied and limited his chances to fight for me,” the PSG man said.

However, the controversial star isn’t the Manchester United boss’ biggest fan, so who knows if this revelation is true. He called the 63-year-old a “pompous a***” in his autobiography.
