The Colombian international holds a well known desire to play in a more competitive domestic league, and the Premier League giants were preparing to take advantage of that by putting in respective £27.5m bids in the new year.

All three clubs are looking for more firepower as they aim to progress in the second half of the season, but reports in Portugal now claim that Roma are favourites to secure Martinez’s signature.

Roma are looking to prepare for the eventual retirement of Francesco Totti with a more mobile striker and hope that they can bring the 27-year-old on board to help them keep pace with current leaders Juventus.
