The White Hart Lane side are scouting the 22 year old and will test the Clarets resolve with a January bid though one imagines the relegation threatened side would hold off on any sale at least until the end of the current campaign.

The England Under 21 international’s contract expires in the summer and this has alerted a great many clubs and Burnley would do well to tie down Ings to a new deal so as to not lose the player at the end of the season for only a compensatory fee.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen to strengthen his attack and had been set to make a move for his former Southampton charge Jay Rodriguez but the England man is still out injured whilst another target, West Brom youngster Saido Berahino, has a massive £20m price-tag.

Emmanuel Adebayor, Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela have all struggled in front of goal though luckily youngster Harry Kane has been a huge success this term.

Ings bagged 21 Championship goals last term and is the club’s joint leading scorer and leading assist maker during the current campaign.
