Gerrard alone worth the ticket price says Poyet.

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has hailed departing Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard, urging football fans around the country to see the midfielder before he leaves Anfield in the summer.

Gerrard starts at the Stadium of Light, his first Premier League appearance since he announced his intention to leave the club he has been with for over 25 years since joining at the age of nine.

The Reds captain won’t return competitively to the North East after this weekend after already playing against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park and he will only visit eight more away grounds this season before he leaves to the MLS.

And Poyet says rival fans should flock to Gerrard’s remaining matches to ensure they witness him live and in the flesh before it’s too late.

“This is the last time he will play in the North East so if I was a supporter, I’d go to the game just to see him,” said Poyet before the match, as quoted by the Daily Star.

“He’s that kind of player who’s worth paying the price of a ticket just to watch him.

“When he came on against us at Anfield a few weeks ago, the first thing he did was switch play with a ball from the outside of his foot. That alone was worth the admission because not too many can do that.

“I don’t know if he’s going to start but it would be nice to have the chance to see him one last time.

“Realistically, I’d prefer him not to play but as a football fan, I always want to see the best players in action.

“We’re going to miss him when he’s not here. We’ll just have to go to the States to watch him.”
