The Reds faithful are to wait a while longer before their star striker makes his much-anticipated return from an injury-nightmare.

The England international is set to return to action this month and it was thought that the 25 year old could play a part in the FA Cup fixture, but the date remains too soon and Rodgers certainly won’t want to rush the forward back for fear of further damage.

The Northern Irishman also stated that Sturridge is unlikely to play in the second-leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final, but could make his return at the end of the month when they visit West Ham United on January 31.
