Blues could move for Gary Cahill replacement.
Chelsea look set to make a move for Real Madrid’s promising young defender Raphael Varane on transfer deadline day, according to the Daily Star.
The Blues are considering replacing the out-of-favour Gary Cahill as he continues to sit on the bench in favour of youngster Kurt Zouma, for whom Mourinho sees Varane as a long-term partner.
With John Terry in the final years of his career, Chelsea will need a long-term replacement at the back, and Varane is widely regarded as one of the top young players in the world in his position.
The 21-year-old first became a regular for Real Madrid during Mourinho’s time in charge at the Bernabeu, but has recently fallen out of favour with Carlo Ancelotti.
It remains to be seen if the Spanish giants would consider letting such a highly-rated player leave in the middle of the season with no replacements lined up, but Chelsea seem ready to test their resolve as the transfer window nears its end.
