Southampton Boss Ronald Koeman Unhappy With Officials as Liverpool Triumph In Key Premier League Clash

Dutch boss Ronald Koeman was left fuming after his side were denied three penalty claims during their 2-0 defeat at home to Liverpool.

In quoted reported by the Sun the Southampton manager outlined his feelings with regards to two challenges on midfielder Filip Djuricic, felled by Emre Can and Joe Allen.

“The first one is difficult because, if you whistle, it’s a penalty and a red card.

“Maybe Djuricic fell down a bit too easily but, for the second claim, there’s no question.

“I don’t understand the referee but, OK, people From Back Page can make mistakes. Refs have a difficult job to do but the fourth official can do much more than he currently does in the Premier League.

“He’s watching the game like the people in the stands, so could help the referee with decisions.”

A third penalty could have been awarded after former Saints defender Dejan Lovren appeared to handle in the box.

The defeat, Southampton’s second in four games, leaves the club in fifth spot and outside the top four after Arsenal’s win at Crystal Palace.
