Lorient vs. Rennes Ligue 1 preview: Pressure increasing for Merlus

FC Lorient welcome Stade Rennais to the Stade du Moustoir looking to pull away from the relegation trap door.

When: 7.00 pm GMT, 4 April 2015

Where: Stade du Moustoir, Lorient

Les Merlus were left frustrated last weekend after being beaten by Paris Saint-Germain in Friday evening’s kick off.

Lorient held their illustrious opponents for much of the first half, and responded well after falling behind. However, despite equalising, they missed opportunities to score the second goal and ultimately lost 3-1.

It was a reality lamented by the sulky Jordan Ayew after the match, and the Ghana international had a point—too often this season, the Bretons have controlled games, passed well, looked impressive, but been unable to take any points.

It is imperative that they beat Rennes on Saturday as they look to stave off relegation. Heading into this fixture, Lorient are only two points clear of Toulouse in 18th, and with Le TFC facing bottom-of-the-pile Metz, could feasibly drop into the bottom three.

Rennes, up in eleventh place, have struggled for consistency all season and appear destined for another mid-table finish.
