Visitors Bastia looked lively during the first half and took the lead on 35 minutes. Ivorian international forward Giovanni Sio met a pass from Floyd Ayite to fire home past Geoffrey Jourdren.

The Corsicans had the chance to double their lead but were thwarted by the MHSC stopper.

With just over 20 minutes left on the clock, Montpellier made the breakthrough that their increasing pressure merited.

Bryan Dabo—Montpellier’s Player of the Month for March—was fouled by Ayite in the box, opening the door for the home side to take the lead.

Manager Rolland Courbis had intimated before the match that the Paraguay international wouldn’t start the match, but Barrios did, and fired home the subsequent penalty.

Montpellier went ahead less than three minutes later when Anthony Mounier converted another penalty after Guillaume Gillet was guilty of handling in the box while blocking a free kick.

MHSC rounded-off the victory in the dying moments when Morgan Sanson hit a third.
