The 29 year old Welsh international is seen by Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers as the man who could solidify his back-line with last summer’s big money defensive capture, Dejan Lovren, failing to impress this season.

Rodgers knows Williams well from his time in charge at the Liberty Stadium and the Metro claim the Merseyside outfit came close to landing the experienced Swansea star back in 2013.

Though Liverpool have steadied things at the back since the turn of the year they have still conceded more goals than any side in the top six and Williams may offer a no-nonsense committed approach that could assist in keeping things tight defensively.

Williams moved to Swansea City in 2008 and has helped the South Wales side rise from League One to the top half of the Premier League, making 277 appearances for the club in the process.
