Barcelona are the latest club to be linked with a move to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Arda Turan this summer, with Spanish source Mundo Deportivo stating that they are up against Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain for the Turkish international’s signature.

Turan has impressed in La Liga since joining Atletico from Galatasaray back in 2011, and helped guide the club to a La Liga title win in the 2013/14 season, as well as on a run to the Champions League final, where Diego Simeone’s side were eventually beaten by city rivals Real Madrid in Lisbon.

Although Chelsea are also mentioned as contenders for Turan’s signature, it may be that the 28-year-old will end up staying in Spain with a move to rivals Barcelona, with manager Luis Enrique seemingly a keen admirer of his talents.

The Catalan giants already have plenty of options in midfield and attack, but may feel Turan would be a good buy at this stage due to the departure of legendary playmaker Xavi at the end of the season. Although not the same type of player, it could be that the classy and intelligent midfielder would be a realistic contender to take on that creative role alongside the likes of Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic and Andres Iniesta.

The Manchester Evening News recently mentioned Manchester United as another team looking to sign the Turk, and it’s clear that his fine form has seen him attract the attention of bigger clubs ahead of a possible move this summer, with more silverware perhaps unlikely with his current team, despite Simeone’s fine work.

After winning the title in 2014, Atletico immediately lost key players like Diego Costa and Filipe Luis to Chelsea, and it now looks like Turan could become the latest star name poached by richer clubs.
