Manchester United have reportedly strengthened their interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane this summer as Robin van Persie closes in on a move to Fenerbahce, according to The Sun.

The Red Devils will surely be in need of new additions up front next season, with Radamel Falcao agreeing to join Chelsea (as confirmed on their official website), and with the possible departure of Van Persie set to leave Louis van Gaal’s side well short of options in attack.

Kane looks the ideal candidate to fill that gap up top, with the England international scoring an astonishing 31 goals in all competitions last season in an amazing breakthrough campaign for Spurs.

Having previously not been a regular at White Hart Lane, the 21-year-old really stepped up with some superb goalscoring performances in the Premier League, including important goals against the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal in Tottenham victories.

Kane also scored on his England debut against Lithuania, and looks like the real deal at the top level, with The Sun now claiming United could try to bring him to Old Trafford with a bid in the region of £40m, with contact already made with the north London club.

It remains to be seen if Tottenham would consider letting their star player go after just one season of oustanding performances, though they do have a record of letting big names move to United, such as Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Carrick in the recent past.
