Chelsea & Manchester United strongly linked with Brazilian defensive rock

Chelsea and Manchester United are said to be on ‘red alert’ amid speculation that PSG defender Marquinhos is unhappy with his lack of first-team action this term, according to L’Equipe via the Daily Express.

The 20-year-old Brazilian international has started half of PSG’s eight Ligue 1 fixtures this season with Laurent Blanc favouring his national team colleagues David Luiz and Thiago Silva. Marquinhos was an unused sub in the French side’s opening Champions League fixture, and as such. it’s perhaps not surprising that the former AS Roma man isn’t happy with the current situation.

The Daily Express states that both Chelsea and Man United are keen on the young defender, and of the two Premier League sides it would be fair to say Jose Mourinho’s need for Marquinhos is greater than Louis van Gaal’s.

Chelsea have conceded 14 goals in seven Premier League fixtures this season, only bottom-of-the-table Sunderland have let in more, and at various points in the season both John Terry and Gary Cahill have found themselves dropped by the Blues boss.

Marquinhos may well struggle to cement a more prominent role at the Parc des Princes given that Blanc’s decision to use Luiz and Silva as his first-choice central defensive pairing appears to be working very well indeed.

However, would PSG be willing to let one of the brightest young defenders in the world game leave the club, knowing that Thiago Silva is already 31?

PSG sit top of Ligue 1 and have conceded just four goals in their opening eight domestic league fixtures.
