Man United to fight European giants for Real Madrid star’s signature

Manchester United are set to go head-to-head with French giants Paris Saint Germain over the signature of Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane, according to the Metro.

The Red Devils are known long time admirers of the France international, and even made moves to bring him to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window (via Metro).

However, the Metro believe that Madrid aren’t likely to be keen on cashing in on the 22-year-old as he is widely regarded as one of Europe’s best young defenders.

And even if they can be convinced to let him go, Spanish publication Fichajes believe that PSG’s financial muscle could prove too much for United to truly compete with.

United’s recent form could tempt Varane to give them serious consideration, but they would surely still need to be amongst the chasing pack for the title come January as well as have their Champions League ambitions still in tact.
