Manchester United expected to bid for prolific striker in summer as Arsenal baulk at £70m fee

Manchester United are expected to bid for coveted Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The Daily Mail reports that Premier League rivals Arsenal are out of the running to sign the Gabonese international because the transfer fee could rise to a huge £70m.

Aubameyang is contracted to Dortmund until 2020, but is keen on a move to Old Trafford after three years banging in Bundesliga goals, the Daily Mail adds.

The 26-year-old has scored 22 goals in the German top division this season – only one less than Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski – and 29 in all competitions.

He could be one of the hottest properties in the transfer market this summer because a number of Europe’s top clubs are in search of a prolific number nine.

The Red Devils are one of those in need of a top-class striker, with Wayne Rooney ageing and Anthony Martial too young to shoulder the burden of carrying the team.

The Daily Mail understands that Aubameyang is in their sights, and a big-money deal for the forward would not rest on United qualifying for the Champions League.
